Chapter 12

The next few days went by quickly. The men mostly stayed away from her besides checking on her injuries and meals. When they were in the same room, they took every opportunity to lay their hands on her. Their gazes always hit her with a force of lust and never stopped reminding her what would eventually happen between them.

On the third day, Grant asked how she was at dinner. It was instantly apparent she should have thought about what she was going to say. When she told them she felt better, their eyes grew heavy with unspoken desire. Their faces turned into those of possessive male beasts intent on one thing. Her. The atmosphere in the dining room was instantly charged, making desire spiral up her spine and a slight shudder roll over her.

She knew it was only a matter of time before they came for her tonight and there was no way she was going to be able to deny them anything.

Later that night, Sara put Callie down for the night and walked downstairs. Right now, the men were shut in the office. She didn’t have long before they found her. The arousal rushing through her was making her body ache. She knew if she didn’t settle down she might explode from the pressure before they even touched her.

She went to the only place on the ranch that gave her the peace she desperately needed. Jake’s stud. He always made her feel grounded, just petting him calmed her.

The barn was always quiet this time of night. The hands were in the bunk houses or small houses for the married ones. Usually after a long day of working, they could be found watching TV or playing cards.

She wasn’t there but a few moments before hard arms grabbed her roughly from behind. She knew instantly it wasn’t Grant or Jake. A dirty hand flattened over her mouth, preventing the scream caught in her throat from coming. His other arm was wrapped around her middle, keeping her tight against him. She tried to fight as terror streaked through her, kicking, scratching, and hitting everything she could reach. She was spun and was slammed up against the barn wall. Stars flickered behind her eyelids at the pain that radiated up her back.

Her eyes widened when she saw it was the ranch hand that she had seen that day with something like loathing stamped on his face. She couldn’t figure out what she had ever done to him. She’d always made it a point of staying away from the hands, not giving Jake a reason to be mad at her.

He pressed his body against hers, putting his mouth close to her cheek. She turned her face away from him and gagged at his sour breath. “You’re not so uppity now are ya? You think you can ignore me? I’m going to get me some of this cunt for me. You like fucking a lot of men, don’t ya? It ain’t right the bosses get all the snatch and we get none.
